The 674 Vinyl Repair Compounds are designed for use on bus seat vinyl. These compounds are thicker than the standard compound to improve ease of use and are available in a variety of colors commonly used on buses.

Heat-cure repair compounds all fit specialized roles; however, the method of application is the same for all of them(except for 676 Red Basefill). Before you begin, you should determine whether or not you want to use Yellow Repair Mesh. You may want to use it for extra strength on the repair, or to create a buffer between the repair and the foam or other material behind the vinyl. Using the tip of a metal palette knife, remove only a small amount from the jar and spread it across the area of your repair, extending it only slightly beyond its very edge so that the repair blends into the surrounding vinyl. Once the compound is spread evenly, use a heat gun(we recommend a Steinel set to 650 degrees F, or 353 degrees C) to bake the compound thoroughly. It must be cured completely, or you run the risk of the repair failing. Once the compound has been cured, apply heat to the surface until it becomes extremely glossy. Use a chill bar to cool down each layer as the repair is built up. Once the repair is flush, texture can be added.

To add texture, you will need to use a grain mat, otherwise referred to as a grain pad or graining pad. Our Grain Mats come in a set of 12 textures, which are cast from 12 of the most commonly occurring textures in automotive vinyl. Included with every set of Grain Mats is a ring of 12 black vinyl swatches. These swatches will help you compare Grain Mat textures to choose the closest one. Each swatch is numbered on the back and corresponds to a number on the back of each Grain Mat. To properly texture the compound, your repair must be flush with the rest of the surface; this ensures that the Grain Mat makes full contact with the repair and that the final result appears seamless. Once the repair compound is fully cured, the surface of the compound should be heated until it becomes extremely glossy. At this point, the Grain Mat should be quickly and firmly pressed into the repair. Remove the Grain Mat after a moment and inspect the texture. Repeat this process until the desired texture is achieved, at which point you can use your chill bar to cool the compound and set the repair.
